" I love the job your did on my Olds Super Recording Trumpet.  The engraving came out especially nice, the horn looks and plays like new which is amazing considering the horn is probably about 60 years old.  The sound qualities of the "Super Recording" are well known and I now have a beautiful keepsake thanks to your work.
Sincerely,
E. Cooley

  Complete Restoration

Every brasswind repair or restoration will be executed by our master brasswind technician with over forty years experience in brasswind repair, restoration and performance. The complete restoration of a brasswind at the Musical Instrument Repair Shop includes the disassembly and stripping of lacquer or plating and *all dents removed by hand burnishing.  All slides are refit to an air tight finish.  Horns are reassembled without stress and buffed to a lustrous new appearance.  Then a high quality lacquer, pure silver plate or 24k gold plate finish is applied.  All valves, slides, and water keys are reassembled and new corks, felts and springs are installed to assure proper alignment and response of sound.  The brasswind instrument is then thoroughly play tested prior to shipping.

Instruments are prone to damage under normal care and usage.  Minor dents are common place and most restorations and/or repairs require some dent removal.  The Musical Instrument Repair Shop, when performing mechanical overhauls and complete restorations, will do minor dent removal on instruments at no extra charge.  *If the dent work becomes excessive, the Musical Instrument Repair Shop will contact and advise you of any additional charges prior to any work being performed.

The following prices do not include our Precision Rotary or Piston Valve Build and Re-fit.  Please email us for our Precision Rotary or Piston Valve Build and Re-fit prices.

For some time now there have been factory new professional brass instruments produced by musical instrument manufacturers offered in the "raw brass" finish.  These instruments are sold in their shiny new appearance and then, over time, oxidize to become the dull finish horns we occasionally see.  There are some issues that one should consider before selecting the "raw brass" finish.

When restoring brass and nickel instruments the lacquer, silver-plating or 24k gold plating is applied not only for their beautiful appearances but these coatings act as protection against oxidation and wear.  If the instrument is left in "raw brass" one needs to keep in mind that the elements, as well as the acid from the player's own hands, will attack and pit the instrument and greatly decrease the life expectancy of your brass and or nickel instrument.

Also, the residue from this oxidation process can be absorbed into the player's metabolic system and may not be very healthy at all.  Some players have discovered that they are actually allergic to this brass oxidation residue.

The Musical Instrument Repair Shop does, on the occasion of a customer's request, leave a brasswind restoration in the raw brass finish, but only after having advised of the possible negative effects.

The Bach Stradivarius Company used to state on their web site that Bach instruments are not available in raw brass due to the possibility of hazardous brass poisoning.
